Welcome

The Ashland Newcomers Club is an informal group dedicated to welcoming newcomers to the Rogue Valley. Please join us at one of our regularly scheduled monthly events:

  • General Meeting – We meet at 10:00 A.M. on the third Thursday of each month (except August and December) to make new acquaintances, visit with friends, learn about interesting volunteer opportunities, and share about upcoming events in the valley.
  • Monthly Luncheon – We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month at a different Ashland area restaurant to discover new places together, meet new faces, and enjoy each other’s company.
  • Men’s Breakfast – We meet on the first Thursday of each month at the Breadboard Restaurant at 744 North Main St. at 8am.  No reservation is needed.  Just show up and look for a group of about a dozen friendly men.  Please contact hulteen@aol.com for additional information.
  • Potluck Events - Volunteers host a potluck event in their home.  All attendees bring a dish to share and a beverage of choice.  Events can be appetizers only, wine tasting, lunch, brunch, dinner, dessert, etc., host’s choice.

If they would like to join us they should e-mail or call me ahead of the hike that they are interesting in trying.

Inner Peace

The Ashland Daily Tidings currently publishes a column on Inner Peace that is written by Rogue Valley residents. For nearly three years the column has brought peaceful wisdom and insights to readers. The column is published in the Saturday edition on the Back Page.  All residents of the Rogue Valley are invited to submit articles on inner peace: where do we find it, what particular path worked and how has it been helpful. All aspects of inner peace: intuition; guidance; courage; fearlessness; forgiveness; giving and receiving; joy; tolerance; acts of kindness; gratitude; life’s challenges of grief, pain, addictions and more, are welcome. In sharing our stories, lives are touched in ways seen and unseen, and community spirit, energy and growth is enhanced when we reflect on living and practicing inner peace. Send articles of 600 to 700 words to Sally McKirgan innerpeace@q.com   To see all articles on inner peace: www.dailytidings.com Search on inner peace.

Ashland Food Project

The Ashland Food Project was started 2 years ago by those who saw the growing need in our community.  Sharing with our neighbors has never been so important  More people than ever before are using the Ashland Emergency Food Bank.

Here’s how it works:  1)  Each week you buy JUST ONE extra non-perishable food item when you go shopping. 2)  Store it in the green AFP bag you will be given.  3)  On the 2nd Saturday of every other month, a neighbor will pick up the bag and take it to the Food Bank. Very simple. Very easy.  Very effective.

If you’d like to participate, go towww.ashlandfoodproject.com or call (541) 488.6976 to learn how.

OLLI – Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Enroll now for OLLI membership!  The annual fee is just $100 for the entire year — which includes unlimited selection, space permitting, for three quarters of classes, with 80-90 courses offered each quarter.  There is no cost per course.   To clarify a perception that many people have about OLLI, it is not just for retirees.  Membership is open to any age adult.  Since classes are most commonly offered during the day, those with a flexible daytime schedule are the ones who will benefit most.  Newcomers who aren’t interested in joining OLLI or whose schedules prohibit taking classes should know that we also offer free lectures and forums that are open to the public.  These are listed on the OLLI website  http://www.sou.edu/olli/
